Enrolment Policy

Policy Statement

Recognising that the "purpose of the Catholic School is to nurture children in the Catholic Faith" (BCEC Policy), we will foster the formation of a Christian community while at the same time respecting the diversity of a variety of family faith situations.
We aim to welcome children who come to us from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Because of the multicultural nature of our school we welcome and respect the wide range of cultural and religious traditions from which the children come.

Guidelines for Implementation

  1. Parents/Carers complete an Application for Enrolment Form
  2.  A payment of an Enrolment Application fee of $50 is required. (This is a non-refundable Fee.)
  3. A Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, passport and entry papers, where applicable, are required to be presented and will be photocopied for the files.
  4. Copies of custody orders are also to be presented, if applicable.
  5. An interview time is arranged with the Principal.
  6. To confirm the enrolment, after a place has been offered, a $50 'Confirmation of Enrolment' Fee is required to be paid. This $50 will be refunded on the first term school fees. If, however, the family chooses not to continue with the enrolment after returning the Confirmation of Enrolment Form and paying the fee, the fee will be non-refundable.

The Principal has the responsibility of final decision making in the matter of enrolments.

The following criteria will be considered in the acceptance of enrolments:

  1. They are the children of Catholic families of our local parish communities (encompassing Dutton Park, West End, Highgate Hill, Hill End, Fairfield, South Brisbane and Wooloongabba) and children of staff members.
  2. Their brothers and / or sisters already attend or have attended St Ita's.
  3. They are the children of Orthodox families living within our parish boundaries.
  4. They are families of the Catholic faith living outside the local area defined above.
  5. They are families of the Orthodox faith living outside the local area defined above.
  6. They are non-Catholic families who are seeking Catholic education for their children.

The acceptance of enrolment will depend on

  1. Perceived needs of the child being enrolled and the ability of our school to meet those needs. Where children have special needs, Brisbane Catholic Education Guidelines for enrolment of students with special needs will be followed.
  2. Class sizes.
  3. Willingness of the family to accept the policies of the school.
