Message from our Principal - Greg Cran

Welcome to our school website. When you enrol your child at St Ita's Primary School, your family will be welcomed into a collaborative and nurturing learning community which seeks to be inclusive of all. Our community is vibrant and positive with an active and supportive parent body and an enthusiastic and dedicated staff. Our school is renowned in the community for a nurturing and welcoming culture, a high standard of academic achievements and commitment to the development of creativity through the arts and technologies..

St Ita's is a Catholic co-educational school for students from Prep to Year 6 with an enrolment of 359. The school is located in the inner city suburb of Dutton Park in a pleasing physical environment situated in a natural bushland setting backing on to the Brisbane River with views to the University of Queensland, the Eleanor Schonell Bridge and Brisbane City. The cosmopolitan West End and Southbank cultural precincts are located close by. The school enjoys quality facilities with a large grassed and tree shaded playing field on the river bank, swimming pool complex and covered PE Area, contemporary learning spaces and well resourced Library.

St Ita's was founded by the Ursuline Sisters in 1919 and our school's Vision and Mission reflects the spirit of the Ursuline tradition "Serviam" - I will serve. As a Catholic Parish School, St Ita's promotes a welcoming and inclusive community where respectful and positive relationships are fostered with parents, carers and the parish community.

St Ita's is a well resourced school providing optimal conditions for learning. We understand that our school community has a responsibility to the students in our care to provide an educational environment that supports their learning and spiritual development by providing quality educational opportunities in a caring and supportive environment.  Technology resources are accessed by all students from P-6 and technology practices are embedded in the curriculum. Specialist teachers in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, French and Physical Education along with Chess, Board Games Clubs, Choir, Band and Ensembles provide a rich learning environment for the students.

Student wellbeing is promoted through the implementation of a co-ordinated and targeted range of programs that have been supported by evidence based research to develop social and emotional learning. These include the "You Can Do It" program (P-1), Peer Mediation training for Yr 5 students in preparation for implementing in Yr 6, Buddies Program, Circle Time, The Games Factory and Rock and Water.

At St Ita's we strive to work together in partnership with parents, staff, students and our parish community to make our Mission Statement a lived reality. Whether you are new to our school community or present members we hope that our partnership will be happy and rewarding.
